The Washington Post

The former owner of The Washington Post is selling the building the paper has long occupied to a real estate investment company as part of a $159 million deal, the paper said in a story posted Wednesday.

The Post has been taking proposals for a new location, the paper reported:

The newspaper has been looking for up to 270,000 square feet in the [Capital] District. It received about two dozen proposals over the summer and has been narrowing its options.

The sale of the Post by Donald Graham and his family to Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, closed on Oct. 1. Graham Holdings, the new name of the family’s post-sale enterprise, sold the building at 15th and L streets NW to Carr Properties headed by Oliver T. Carr III, according to the Post.

The properties include 1150 15th St., 1515 L St. and 1523 L St. The D.C. government assesses them at nearly $80 million. The sale also includes the land beneath an office building Carr already owns, a 12-story, 144,000-square-foot property at 1100 15th St.

IMDb lists 1150 15th Street NW as one of the locations for the filming of “All the President’s Men,” the famous though inaccurate portrayal of the newspaper’s Pulitzer-Prize winning Watergate coverage and undoing of the Richard Nixon presidency.
