President Obama was upset about New York Times editorials during his re-election campaign, MSNBC.com Executive Editor Richard Wolffe writes in his new book, “The Message.” He decided to call editorial page editor Andy Rosenthal.
“[Communications staffer Anita Decker], just call the main line,” said the president.
“Anita, you can’t do that,” Pfeiffer interjected. “If you call the main line, they are going to announce on the PA system that the president is on the phone for Andy Rosenthal. We can’t do that.”
Eventually the White House found Rosenthal’s number. This may be one of the few times I have anything in common with the president of the United States; my job often requires me to hunt for journalists’ contact information. If only journalists all made their details as easy to find as, for example, Brian Stelter does.
