The Associated Press announced Monday that it is expanding its Washington-based investigative team, adding reporters for national coverage and “launching a unit of international reporters to pursue in-depth projects across borders.”
“Customers, readers and viewers the world over rely on AP for fast and accurate coverage of breaking news events,” said AP Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll in a press release. “And they count on aggressive newsgathering to give them something fresh — the revelations, investigations, new angles and images that no one else has.
“That’s why we continue to deepen our commitment to investigative work and are making a number of important hires and assignment changes.”
Ronnie Greene and Jeff Horwitz will join the Washington investigative team. Greene was most recently a senior reporter at The Center for Public Integrity and served as project editor for the series that won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting, according to the release. Horwitz, currently a Knight-Bagehot fellow at Columbia University, was a reporter for American Banker from 2009 to 2013.
The U.S. investigations team is expanding, as well, to include reporters in New Orleans, San Francisco, and Jackson, Mississippi. Additions to the international team include reporters in Peru, Shanghai, and London.
