The Associated Press and Fox Sports announced plans Thursday to sell their sports data company STATS LLC to Vista Equity Partners, a private equity firm.

STATS provides clients with scores, content and technology to track and analyze sports. The companies said in a news release:

STATS’ calling card consists of real-time scores, historical sports information, Associated Press editorial content, a turnkey fantasy sports operation and SportVU technology. Today, STATS’ worldwide client network of media companies and professional sports leagues and teams utilize a broad spectrum of dynamic in-game broadcast presentations and virtual images, multimedia enhancements and game analysis and tactical coaching tools … .

The transaction is expected to close this summer and terms have not been disclosed.

AP joined Fox Sports as an equal partner in STATS in 2005, according to the release. They “will continue their usual business relationship with STATS after the sale” and “AP customers will not be affected by the sale.”
