The Poynter Institute and the American Society of News Editors announced a new partnership offering no-cost training for ASNE members on topics relevant to journalism’s changing news landscape.

The training presented in four webinars will be jointly developed by Poynter and ASNE and made available through Poynter’s online News University, the organizations said in a release.

“ASNE and Poynter are organizations committed to helping newsroom leaders better serve their audiences and achieve journalistic excellence,” said Poynter President Tim Franklin. “It’s a great, added benefit for ASNE members. At the same time, it allows Poynter to expand the reach of its training with more of the nation’s editors, and it makes the institute even more connected with the issues facing newsroom leaders.”

The webinars will also be available to nonmembers for a fee.

In the joint release, ASNE President David Boardman said the training will “help newsroom leaders meet their challenges with the state-of-art, values-based training for which Poynter is renowned.”

“Our organizations have similar goals, and this program will help newsroom leaders meet their challenges with the state-of-art, values-based training for which Poynter is renowned,” said Boardman, who is also a member of Poynter’s National Advisory Board.

Poynter also recently announced an expanded training initiative with the McClatchy Company.
