The British Library opens up 300 years worth of news on Monday evening, The Guardian’s Roy Greenslade reported Monday, with more than 750 million pages of newspapers and magazines “dating back to the English civil war.” The collection also contains 4.8 million archived websites, Greenslade reported.
British Library chief executive Roly Keating says the newspaper collection “is a vital part of the memory of the nation – recording every aspect of local, regional and national life, and continuing to grow at a rate of more than seven metres every week.”
