1. Jailed journalists won’t get help from Egypt’s new president: Many of Monday’s stories about the jail sentences given to three Al-Jazeera journalists included speculation, and hope, that Egypt’s new president would pardon the men. He will not. On Tuesday, the Associated Press reported that “Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said Tuesday he will not interfere in court rulings.” Also on Tuesday, the AP shared details about the three journalists. Journalists around the world are reacting to the news through Twitter.

2. Journalists in trouble around the world:

  • Last week, police arrested Edmund Kudzayi, editor of the Sunday Mail in Zimbabwe, according to a report Monday by the Committee to Protect Journalists. “Authorities accused Kudzayi of being the anonymous Facebook blogger ‘Baba Jukwa.’ The blog, by a purported mole within the ruling ZANU-PF party, became popular in the run-up to the July 31, 2013, elections when it disclosed allegations of assassination plots and corruption within the ruling party, according to news reports.”
  • On Tuesday, according to Reporters Without Borders, two journalists in the Dominican Republic were arrested during drug raids
