The Guardian

Lee Glendinning, formerly deputy editor of Guardian US, has been promoted to editor there, the newspaper announced Monday.

The announcement comes on the same day that Glendinning’s predecessor, Katharine Viner, officially began her tenure as editor-in-chief of Guardian News and Media Group. She succeeded longtime editor Alan Rusbridger, who left on Friday after 20 years at the helm.

Glendinning’s appointment precedes a string of job moves at The Guardian that will be announced in the coming days, according to a press release from the newspaper. However three top positions at Guardian News and Media Group remain unchanged. Paul Johnson, deputy editor of Guardian News and Media Group, will retain his title, as will Guardian Australia editor Emily Wilson and Observer editor John Mulholland.

Glendinning, who became a reporter at The Guardian in 2006, helped launch Guardian Australia in 2013, according to the release. She oversaw the paper’s coverage of Homan Square, a facility in Chicago where witnesses recounted suffering abuses at the hands of local police.
