The body of Wall Street Journal reporter David Bird has been found in New Jersey, Melanie Grayce West reported Thursday for the Wall Street Journal. Bird, who went missing in January of last year, was found Wednesday, West reported.
A body found in a Northern New Jersey river on Wednesday was identified as his on Thursday, the police said.
The discovery marks the end of more than a year of searching for Mr. Bird, 55 years old. He worked for Dow Jones for more than two decades, most recently covering energy markets.
Bird was found in the Passaic River in an area that police had searched before, Rachelle Blinder reported for the New York Daily News.
Authorities combed the woods, river and train tracks near Bird’s home but found no leads after his disappearance.
The body was decomposed and authorities are trying to determine how long Bird was in the river, so close to his house, Deputy Chief Denise Arseneault of the prosecutor’s office told the Daily News. Medical examiners are investigating the cause and manner of death, including whether foul play was involved, she said.
Justin Zaremba reported for NJ.com that the medical examiner hasn’t identified the cause of death yet.
