Politico announced the appointment of Scott Rothrock to the position of chief technology officer Thursday.
Rothrock, formerly vice president of engineering for business intelligence company Appfluent, has also worked at The Washington Post, AOL, Cox and Verizon, according to the release:
At POLITICO, Rothrock will be integral in creating a system of integrated Web platforms to connect the core POLITICO properties to the states and European versions. He’ll also work closely with stakeholders across the company in developing innovative ways to increase the engagement of our users. Rothrock will oversee product and information system design, development and execution; engineering; project management, product design; user experience; and IT operations.
Rothrock replaces Ryan Mannion, who left Politico for the digital magazine Ozy in June.
Rothrock joins Politico in advance of the outlet’s planned April expansion into Brussels, its base of operations for a separate political news organization focused on Europe. The European edition of the site will replicate many of the same business strategies as the American version, including a print product, a website and a series of subscription-based news verticals.
