The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday redirected readers to a temporary site as the staff worked to restore access to its full homepage.
A message to readers at the top of the temporary site advised readers that WSJ.com is having “technical difficulties” and that the regular site will return soon.
The homepage outage comes at an inopportune time for the Journal, which is well known for its coverage of financial news. At around the same time that the page stopped loading, the New York Stock Exchange suspended trading due to an apparent technical problem.
The site’s article pages and subsections appear to be unaffected by the outage.
In a statement to Poynter, a spokesperson for the newspaper said staffers are “working to be back up as quickly as possible.”
Update, 12:46 p.m.: The Wall Street Journal’s full homepage now displays correctly.
