The image of two women, one with a bloody hand holding her phone, the other with her shirt torn open and covered with dust from an explosion, made front pages around the world today. The photo, by journalist Ketevan Kardava, was captured at the Brussels Airport after one of two deadly terrorist attacks that hit Brussels yesterday, killing more than 30 and injuring hundreds. Kardava told USA Today’s Natalie DiBlasio about the moment she took the image.

‘I was shouting Doctor! Doctor! Doctor! And no one was there. When no one came, she took her camera back out and snapped the photo of the woman in the yellow jacket.’

‘What do you do in this situation if you’re a journalist? Help? Ask doctor to come? Or take a photo?’ she said, pausing to compose herself. ‘In that very moment, I realized that to show the world what was happening in this moment of terror, a photo was more important.’

Other front pages showed the Belgian flag, the flag’s colors, the flag of the European Union riddled with bullets and missing stars. There are images of the bombers, pictures of the dead and scenes from vigils that followed the attacks. Here’s a collection of them, via Kiosko and Newseum.
