DUBLIN, Ireland — The Roman Catholic Church has apologized to an outspoken Irish victim of clerical sexual abuse and paid him about $325,000 in damages.

Colm O’Gorman, 36, was raped when he was an altar boy in the southeast Ireland parish of the Rev. Sean Fortune from 1981 to 1983. The priest killed himself in 1999 before his trial on charges of raping eight boys.

O’Gorman has formed a support group for victims of sexual abuse called One in Four and appears frequently on Irish talk shows to promote dialogue about the long-suppressed scandals.
