T'was the blog post, not the call
Posted by Allan Maurer 11/20/2009 1:19:59 PM

I worked with Kurt and he's an honorable and generally thoughtful man. I think his mistake here was not in calling the school. As someone else noted, posting from a work computer is terminally dumb, so to speak.

It was that blog post afterward, which he clearly realizes now was a mistake, that is bothersome.

Just like the guy who made the vulgar comment now realizes that doing it a second time was more than doubly unwise.

In both cases, it was a bit of overkill.

I'll say this guy over-reacted. He comes across as a self-righteous snitch. No one likes a snitch.

Posting something objectionable from a work computer is felony dumb.

And that's true wherever the job is, school or elsewhere.

Maybe...

*Maybe* the editor shouldn't have made the call. On the other hand, I have no sympathy for the anonymous simp who decided to act like a jerk online, on school time and using school equipment. It was entertaining, though, to see all the online commenters at stltoday.com (most of them anonymous, too) try to hold the guy up as some sort of First Amendment martyr.
