...of the time entertainer George Jessel was kicked off Today in the 1960's after using what he thought was humor to compare The New York Times to Pravda, etc. The producer told sub anchor Edwin Newman to get rid of him, and Newman launched into a lecture about Jessel's attempt to turn something decidedly apolitical(promoting his nightclub and future TV appearances)into something very political. At the end of Newman's remarks, the newscaster told Jessel he was no longer welcome on the program, and to leave the studio. (These days, what viewers will tolerate from Bill O'Reilly or Glenn Beck pales by comparison.)
