The real reason?
Posted by Alex Dering 11/22/2009 12:14:31 PM

I thought the real reason Oprah was quitting was because she's lost something like half of her key demographic: women ages 18-49.

Oprah's no dope. Perhaps she's merely demonstrating her understanding of the First Rule of Showbiz: Always leave the audience wishing they'd had five minutes more rather than five minutes less.

The Real Reason Oprah's Quitting
Posted by walter ross 11/22/2009 2:48:20 AM

The real reason Oprah's quitting her show is that, following her interview with Sarah Palin, Oprah had one of those "What have I become?" moments. It's easy to understand. After interviewing the clinically brain dead Caribou Barbie I too would have a prolonged moment of self-doubt. Oprah's "moment" is evidently lasting a lot longer. Thankfully, the big O can afford the big bills for the big therapy.

Daley's talk

I know a lot of people in Chicago who like Daley less and less and say so out loud and yet Daley is still around.

Huh?

I don't know that the media whined quite as loudly about Oprah's shutting down Michigan Avenue, etc., as the merchants did. They could have worked around it and created a street festival kind of atmosphere, with booths selling their wares(or discounts on hotel rooms, if hotels were located in the area). Maybe, the queen of daytime just wanted to try something new...Oxygen was a noble experiment in which she participated as a co-owner, but now she wants to try it solo, which is her right and prerogative. I wish her all the best.
