Market gap appears in small towns

As metro coverage of an outlying community shrinks, "the slack may be picked up by a local weekly."

Seems like a wonderful opportunity for seasoned journalists to work and thrive in their own home towns. Whether on paper or on line, local enterprises can fill a market gap created by newspaper chains' decisions.

These small, unaffiliated, unencumbered, debt-free operations may provide homes for thousands of displaced newspaper people.
