How did it come to this? The very things we used to rant and rave about and dig deep to change when others did them are what we now do as a matter of course. How did we get so dishonroable? Why can't we get back to the nobility of a profession protected by the U.S. Constitution? We should be ashamed. A particularly sad day today.

poor todd because he was twice victimized: first by a crazed shooting then a direct hit from a so-called news organization that has no business in a big-city market.
poor lee, because it's hard to believe it has the respect of the community it purports to serve -- based on what i've seen and heard on my frequent visits to st. louis.
i began my professional career at the post-dispatch and am eternally grateful to the wonderful editors who shepherded my copy through to publication. it breaks my heart to see what a shadow of its former self the SLPD has become.
we were fearless, agressive and very much on the side of comforting the afflicted. alas, it seems if reporters are really interested in the muckracking joe pulitzer made the PD famous for they should head to the few remaining gutsy papers -- alternative pubs, rolling stone and, ulp, the national enquirer.

I don't know how the title is connected to the laying off of the reporter. Was he working as a journalist while at the city council meeting? It's not clear. However, that is not my point. My point is that you don't need a title to appeal to pity to actually be appalled by how companies decide to fire people. Companies suffer from the bulimia of profit. They don't know that in the end the bigger they get the worse they will be--- alienated, and socially irresponsible.

WTF? This is one of the most rotten things I've seen in all the newspaper layoffs. Can someone start a fund for this guy? I would contribute. He deserves it.
