every day
Posted by Carl Sullivan 5/12/2005 12:26:46 PM

I know I'm a little late in posting (just saw these posts). Just to clarify: Newsweek has posted original daily content on its Web site for many years. The "Every Day, Every Week" initiative is a new way of organizing material to emphasize topical sections on select days: health Tuesdays, business Wednesdays, etc. And we'll continue to post non-health stories on Tuesday, non-business stories on Weds., etc. as well. The challenge is in getting people who don't regularly visit our site to realize that we are doing daily updates. We're hopeful the new initiative will help get that message across.

And as Amy suggested, we've been adding RSS feeds over the last year or so.

Future of newsweeklies

I subscribed to Time, Newsweek and U.S. News for about 20 years, beginning in college. I haven't even glanced at any of them in a decade. There's simply no reason, given the flow of information I see and have access to every day. They've pretty much lost any value or relevance, even as an online resource. There's just too much else available that I'm already using.

They also need feeds
Posted by Amy Gahran 4/25/2005 5:39:52 PM

In addition to publishing fresh content online (not just archives), I think all kinds of news organizations (not just weekly mags) are missing the boat if they don't offer feeds (RSS or Atom format).

Especially for net-savvy news junkies (the kind of people who might treasure Newsweek-style analysis), feeds are becoming essential to their online news diet. If your content is not available via feed, it probably won't hit their radar screen.

The good news is that feeds are fairly easy and inexpensive to implement. And once you set them up, they're automated.
