Barbara Selvin is an associate professor of journalism at Stony Brook University. Previously, she was a reporter for Newsday and New York Newsday, covering real estate for the New York edition and health care for the Long Island flagship. She got her start as a reporter at a weekly newspaper and has written about community journalism throughout her career.
