I direct the Knight Community Journalism Fellows. The Teaching Newspaper as we call it was my idea � grad students earning a University of Alabama M.A. in the newsroom of the renowned Anniston Star. I prepared with a Nieman Fellowship in Journalism at Harvard University. My journalism M.S. is from Columbia University. I was Clendinen Professor of Critical Writing at the University of South Florida and a Fulbright professor of journalism at American University in Bulgaria. I was M.E. of The Kansas City Times while it was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes. I have been The Anniston Star�s vice president/news, executive editor, editorial page editor and M.E.. Earlier newspaper assignments took place at The Courier-Journal where I was a Washington correspondent, features editor and city editor.
