The Washington Post Looks at Role of D.C. Charter Schools
Stories about President George Bush's farewell visit to Iraq on Sunday dominated several of Monday's home pages. CNN and CBS News highlighted Bush's press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, during which an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at Bush and later yelled, "This is the end!" Both news sites ran a written story about the incident, as well as a video of it.

The Washington Post's home page stood out from the others. In place of photos of Bush and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, the Post's home page featured a photo of a child leaning against a blue school locker. The in-depth article accompanying the photo looks at the success of charter schools in D.C., a city that's known for having one of the nation's most troubled school districts. The Post has reported extensively on D.C.'s public schools in its "Fixing D.C.'s Schools" series.
