Back in 2005, Chinese journalist
Shi Tao was
sentenced to 10 years in prison for posting to the Web notes from a directive issued by China's Propaganda Department instructing the media how to cover the 15th anniversary of the military crackdown in Tiananmen Square.
Today, according to the U.K. magazine PC Advisor, Shi Tao plans sue Yahoo in the US for providing to the Chinese government evidence that the journalist had been sending e-mails to the U.S.
"We're also trying to line up other victims for a class action suit. We've been in touch with a few others, but we haven't signed anyone up yet. It's a very sensitive issue because there could be reprisals against their families," said Albert Ho, a Hong Kong legislator and lawyer in the case.
Considering the widespread attention this case got at the time of Shi Tao's conviction, this new development has received remarkable little media traction.
