Yep -- you can see via WeatherBonk that it really has been snowing in downtown Boulder, Colo. today. |
Today, as I gaze out at two feet of snow on my deck in Boulder, Colo., the weather is much on my mind. Serendipitously,
John Battelle pointed to a cool mashup site called
WeatherBonk. Here's what you can do there, according to the site:
- Live Conditions: "View real-time micro-level weather conditions worldwide."
- Web Cams: "Check out live views from over 8,000 worldwide weather cams. Or add your own."
- Forecasts: "Click anywhere on map to view forecasts from The Weather Channel, National Weather Service," and more
- Fog Overlay: "Overlay the fog on a Google map in the Bay Area. Daytime only."

No kidding: Two feet of snow on my deck this morning! Click to see more of my blizzard photos. |
- Weather Along Route: "Find forecasts for your road trip. Adjust departure times to avoid bad weather."
- Seasonal Weather: "Scroll through historical weather conditions to find the ideal time for your trip."
- Google Earth: "Use WeatherBonk dynamic data layer to view information in Google Earth."
You can also specify a geographic region and embed a WeatherBonk conditions map on your site. This might be a step up from the same-old forecasts that many news orgs offer online. Here's more about how it works.
