Comments: Not the Place for PR Pitches
Posted by Steve Outing at 3:52 PM on Oct. 21, 2003
If you stay on top of new-media trends, you'll know that some spammers now target "comments" sections of some websites and weblogs. (It's a new duty for web editors to watch for spam comments and delete them.) Now, I note on Dan Gillmor's eJournal weblog that he's having trouble with public-relations people posting pitches about their clients to his blog's comments area. Obviously, PR folks will want to practice proper Comment etiquette, and not get tarnished by spam-like tactics. The rules are simple enough: Be on topic when you post a PR pitch, and keep it short and useful to the audience.
