Trackback Explained

We've talked a bit about "trackback" on this weblog. (Here's an Amy Gahran item about trackback's potential for news websites.) Trackback is an automatic way for your website to notify other sites when you publish a link to them -- so that they know you're talking about them. If you're still confused about how, exactly, trackback works, here's a nifty tutorial (and another from blog-technology vendor Movable Type) that will help the concept sink in.
