I'm not quite sure which is the bigger story:
Fox Sports' surge to near the top of the most popular sports websites, or a decline in powerhouse No. 1
ESPN's numbers. According to numbers from Internet ratings service
comScore in a
story by
Paul Gough at HollywoodReporter.com, as of July, Fox Sports is now No. 2 to ESPN, just one month after it began providing sports-related content to Microsoft's MSN portal. Aided by its partnership with MSN, Fox Sports logged 10.4 million unique visitors to its website in July, according to comScore, up 360% from 2.3 million unique visitors in June, when ESPN was still providing MSN with sports content. But No. 1 ESPN had 13.4 million unique visitors in July, down from the 14.1 million it had when its MSN visitors were still being counted in its totals. According to
Nielsen//NetRatings, ESPN.com had 13.2 million unique visitors in July compared to 15.2 million in June. Fox Sports rose from 2.6 million unique visitors in June to 9.4 million in July. Nielsen//NetRatings has Yahoo! Sports second and Fox Sports third.
