German Paper Mimics Google News
Posted by Katja Riefler at 10:23 AM on Sep. 17, 2004
Has Google News changed the way we consume news online? Maybe, maybe not. At least it has obviously changed the way the German online newspaper Netzeitung sees its role as a news source.

In an editorial published this week, it informs readers about upcoming changes scheduled for the end of September and asks for the contribution of not commonly known serious news sources, which can be crawled and linked to in the future.

Background: Netzeitung is going to change the way it presents news. It plans to offer automated links to other media news sources beneath each article. The main difference compared to Google News, according to chief editor and CEO Michael Maier, is that the links will be monitored by journalists. He calls this concept "the first editorial-driven news search engine."
