"What will people pay for online?" is one of the many ongoing discussions about how newspapers can increase profits in their interactive-media operations. Now comes the World Association of Newspapers' "
Shaping the Future of the Newspaper" project with the answers.
News content that's on the "we can't sell it" list includes "news that doesn't affect them, most politics, non-local events, the arts." Information people will pay for includes sports results, personal health, and personal security, according to WAN.
The newest report in the Future of the Newspaper series will be released at the Beyond the Printed Word conference in Prague next month. More about the report is in this
news release, which is also available in
French and
Spanish. A
subscription to the WAN series, which is heavily funded by newspaper vendors, is €750 per year.
