Monique Van Dusseldorp
A group weblog about the intersection of news & technology

The Future on a Friday Afternoon

Up for some video? It's always interesting to know how big companies see the future. It's even better if they actually try to visualize it. If we take a look at personal communications and their implications for media companies, the following three visions are worth looking at.

  • Japanese telecom operator NTT Docomo offers an entertaining if rather sappy story in a 10-minute video about a group of friends reuniting, but the underlying concepts are interesting.

  • Mobile operator Vodafone also shows off an idea of how people will interact with always-on connectivity.

  • And Medialab Europe, the recently closed MIT branch in Dublin, still has some excellent videos online. The Human Connectedness group, for instance, led by Stefan Agamanolis, has some wonderful examples of mediated communication between groups of people who are not in the same place: From playing games in Break Out for Two, to sharing household routines in Open Window for patients, to the One to One Floral Display. (The video is at the end of the page.)
