eBay-Skype: Match Made in Heaven?
Posted by David Carlson at 3:15 PM on Sep. 12, 2005
At first blush, the purchase of Skype by eBay might not seem to make a lot of sense. eBay is a c2c and b2c (consumer-to-consumer and business-to-consumer) store. Skype is an IP phone company. They would seem to have little in common, right?

Wrong. Think it though and it would appear to be a match made in heaven.

What does an online auction house want with a "phone company"? Hmmm. Could it be the ability to let buyers and sellers talk to one another? And could the ability to have that talk in real time at no cost to either party be of benefit to the world's largest online store?

I think it could, to say the least. I also think it's another way the Internet is displacing newspaper classifieds.
