Providers Delete Weblogs in China
Posted by Fons Tuinstra at 12:03 PM on Dec. 22, 2005
The Chinese blogosphere is up in arms as some hosts of weblogs do the opposite of what they are supposed to do: They delete weblogs, even without notifying the owners.

The Chinese edition of Wordpress, introduced recently, has enraged Chinese webloggers, writes China Web2.0 Review. The relationship between the Chinese edition and Wordpress.com remains unclear, as are the reasons to delete weblogs without notification.

One of China's most famous bloggers, Wang Jianshuo, last week was suddenly off-line because his host, Ipowerweb, switched him off, he writes eight days after the incident. He is now struggling to recover three years of work.

He wrote: "The ISP I use, Ipowerweb.com, found there is some phishing content on my site (as they said), and it was their legal responsibility to shut down the site (also as they said). The result is, they deleted the content I built in the last three years within one minute. I am working with them to get the data from the backup server."
