The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court is reviewing a jury's verdict that determined the Boston Herald and reporter David Wedge libeled a judge in a series of reports that portrayed him as soft on criminals and insensitive to victims' suffering. The judge's lawyer says with accrued interest on the 2005 award of $2.05 million, the newspaper owes more than $3.3 million. On Thursday, the Herald's attorney was pressed on why Wedge destroyed his notes of interviews in the case.
