From "News War" producer Raney Aronson's chat:
New York: The Washington Post report on conditions at Walter Reed has clearly demonstrated the value of a free and unencumbered press, and has been a wake-up call to Washington regarding the press's watchdog role.
Raney Aronson: That was such a terrific story by the Post - and I hope that reporting like that and others has an impact.
From the "Reliable Source" chat:
Kensington, Md.: So, what are y'all gonna wear to the party after Dana Priest and Anne Hull when the Pulitzer? Will it be business attire or evening? I vote for evening dress. You'll be celebrating.
Roxanne Roberts: It's interesting to see how fast the brass responded, isn't it? Kudos for Dana and Anne, but the real winners are the soldiers and their families. That, my friends, is the power of serious, reported journalism.
From John Solomon's chat:
John Solomon: The stories by Dana and Anne were just fantastic. It was trademark watchdog journalism, and it helped bust the PR myths surrounding the care given to our vets. Everyone I've talked to since Sunday has read them and had a strong reaction to them. As for the accountability of politicians, I suspect there is more to be examined on that front in the coming weeks.
