Bill Keller told his staff last week: "I don't know who will take the buyouts, and I don't want to suggest that any department is completely immune, but believe we can get to 100 slots without anything so drastic as reducing Metro coverage or downsizing the Sports section -- and I believe it would be unwise, at a time when we are asking readers to pay a premium price for our work, to give them conspicuously less of it."
