Glenn F. Bunting says his examination of Frank Deford's work finds that the Sports Illustrated legend "frequently uses breathtaking overstatement to portray athletes and their accomplishments -- such as forever, never, greatest ever, most unique and one of a kind." But, he says, "not all of Deford's troublesome passages were mere exaggerations. Many were flat out wrong and had not been corrected in print." DEFORD'S REACTION: "Honestly.
