Jeff Sykes resigned as Reidsville (NC) Review managing editor Thursday after two of his reporters
invented quotes and lifted photos for a "Two Cents Worth" person-on-the-street feature. The reporters,
Brook R. Corwin and
Michael Pucci, also resigned. Sykes learned of the reporters' actions earlier this month but didn't fire them because "I was trying be compassionate." (Read the publisher's
letter to readers.)
> Reporting intern says editor Sykes "should have known better than to try to sweep this under the rug. This offense, especially for young journalists learning the trade, should not be flippantly dismissed."
