troll is an Internet user who browses or "trolls" message boards seeking to cause trouble.
A troll often will bait other users with inflammatory messages or personal attacks in order to create a disruption. Message-board veterans often say the best way to discourage a troll is simply to ignore him -- a dogma often phrased as "Don't feed the trolls." Other techniques to discourage trolls include requiring registration with a valid e-mail address to use boards; moderating postings; using a computer's
IP address to block certain users from contributing; and using "bozo filters," which cause a user to falsely believe his posts are appearing on the board.
