President Bush Calls Afghanistan Service "Romantic"
In a videoconference on Thursday,
President Bush listened to reports on Afghanistan from military and civilian personnel:
"I must say, I'm a little envious," Bush said. "If I were slightly
younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic
experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy
succeed."
"It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some
ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and
thanks," Bush said.
On the same day,
the Pentagon confirmed a U.S.-led attack on the Taliban that killed civilians.
Also on Thursday:
A suicide car bomb attack on a convoy of US troops killed six Afghan
civilians in Kabul on Thursday, while fresh violence in the restive
south left at least 15 Taliban fighters and policemen dead.
