USA Today says federal regulators are taking a major step this week toward establishing a nationwide alert system that will send text messages to cell phones in times of crisis.
Some day, I suspect, we will look back on this in the same way we look back on the beginning of the 911 system.
The national alert system could be running by 2010. I wonder what your local Emergency Medical Services, weather and disaster planners would say about the need for these kinds of systems.
