Veteran TV correspondent Mike Boettcher tells me he is leaving NBC News to return to Iraq and report for a web audience. He is going to finance this 15 month (self) assignment himself and will take along his 21-year-old son Carlos.
Over the course of his career, Boettcher has covered national security issues for CNN and has
reported from Iraq for NBC. He discusses suicide bombers in this
September 2001 chat on CNN.com. His hometown paper in Oklahoma, The Ponca City News,
reported on his upcoming (self) assignment Sunday.
Watch my video report to learn why Boettcher feels that he has to do this work and what stories he believes are not being told.
Correction: Boettcher says he'll take 18 days off in the course of the 15 month assignment (as opposed to the 15 days I report in my intro).
