I was particularly taken by
this NPR piece by Larry Abramson. The story zeros in on a phrase I have never heard but sure does make sense: "The proper tree in the proper place."
The story points out that the old shade trees that we all love just don't co-exist well with power lines and people don't seem very happy when they lose power to falling limbs.
The story includes experts who say when we replace trees, we should replace them with the proper species -- trees that don't grow as large.
The story also makes me think about the job of the tree trimming crews who are trying to keep limbs out of lines.
Take a listen.
