La Tercera Launches Its Own "Digital Paper"
La Tercera, one of the major newspapers of Chile (in Spanish), this week debuted a new online version of its traditional site. The new site uses Macromedia Flash to display the pages just as they are in the print edition (including the ads).
(NOTE: Currently this site appears to function only with the Internet Explorer Web browser running on a PC platform. Tidbits was not able to get the site to load in any browser on the Macintosh.)
This move is similar to what
LUN.com (another Chilean newspaper) has done, but LUN.com uses JPG files to show the full printed pages (0.5 Mb per page).
The difference between them is that La Tercera chose software that resembles the experience of using your hands to turn the pages -- but, in this case, with your mouse. That is what Rodrigo Guaiquil, who has been involved in the changes in La Tercera comments in his blog.
