Net Expansion = Editorial Job Cuts at Sun Media
The axe is falling in Canadian newsrooms. Yesterday the Toronto Globe and Mail reported that "Quebecor Inc. is eliminating 120 editorial jobs at Sun Media in an effort to reduce costs across its newspaper chain. ... Sun Media chief executive officer Pierre Francoeur said the company is trying to position itself as a 'multi-platform' content provider, expanding its focus on the Internet."
Yet another example of why it's important for journalists in any media to broaden their online skill set. As news organizations strive to adapt to the growing role of online media, I suspect the news pros who'll get to keep their jobs are the ones who can easily shift into online roles.
