HiPiHi: China's answer to Second Life. It's a small virtual world after all. |
Since last month,
the story of Beijing's new online service
HiPiHi has been hitting China-related weblogs. It has been dubbed "China's answer to
Second Life," the famous virtual world developed by Linden Labs.
HiPiHi CEO Liu Xinhua stresses its operation was under development while Second Life had not yet become famous. For almost two years a Bejing-based team of more than 60 developers been working on the Chinese virtual world.
While only a few people got a peek behind the virtual scenes, it promises to be very different from Second Life. Liu Xinhua said, "HiPiHi will make it much simpler than Second Life for users to create objects by using pre-fab [modules]. Users will have much better experience in building something they are interested in."
According to China Web Review 2.0: "Xinhua thinks most of Chinese users are using [the] Internet or play games for entertainment or networking, therefore, they need to develop HiPiHi to satisfy such needs."
