Sliding the News

The redesigned El Comercio site, from Peru, features a slider tool for news navigation.
For an interesting way to display news online, see the redesigned front page of Peru's El Comercio.

There's a zone "below the fold" where a sliding control allows you to see news from previous hours with titles or photos, ranked by importance, sorted by hour and by section (Sports, National, World and Most Read).

That feature is made possible by AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) programming, which adds interactivity to Web pages without going into the Flash arena.

The site redesign was done by 451°, which helped develop news sites such as Clarin.com in Argentina.

(Editor's note: I was able to use this feature in Firefox for the Mac, but it would not load in the Safari browser.)
