A Reporter's Nuts and Bolts
Posted by Steve Outing at 11:25 AM on Jan. 24, 2003
J.D. Lasica warrants two mentions today. (See item below about his RSS article for OJR.) Lasica did something interesting with that RSS piece: He posted transcripts of the e-mail interviews he conducted while reporting that story -- and called it "a small experiment in transparent journalism." As he notes, this is a lot of work, but perhaps it's worth it in this case, to help people who want to dig deeper into the RSS syndication topic. And of course, conducting e-mail interviews facilitates this; trying to transcribe notes from a phone or in-person interview to make them legible to a public audience would simply be too much to ask of any sane reporter.
