Online, New Yorkers Kept Their Cool
One last comment from me about NYTimes.com's
interactive NYC transit strike map:
With the strike winding down, we probably won't see
desperation and nasty posts from the public trashing the transit workers or the MTA, as
might have happened if the strike went on into a second week or beyond. So
far, the posts have been pretty much of the "I love this city and I loved
walking to work this morning, seeing the beautiful houses/brownstones/buildings
that I never noticed before" ilk. Good stuff. (And let me
reiterate: great coverage.)
But the
true New Yorkers -- I grew up there
(albeit in the suburbs), so I'm allowed to say this -- would have started
getting nasty, trashy, testy, and worse in the second week. Then the graphic mash-up
editor really would have been busy!
