Where's a Mashup When You Really Need It?
I love Christmas lights. And I drove around the Orlando (Florida) area the other night looking
for good lights, without a map or directions. I found one good neighborhood,
and three that surprised me because there were so few lights. (There
certainly seem to be more great displays this year than in the last few
years, especially in my own neighborhood.)
My local newspaper, the
Orlando Sentinel, runs a
gallery of
homes with lights. Unfortunately, it's very
limited (only 11 photos, including one from out of town), and it only
includes about a half-dozen homes, with no maps or directions. Sure, I could
look them up myself, but, hey, let's have some serious instant gratification
here for the lazy.
Next year's recipe: A
mashup Google Map (or by then, some other
site may be in the lead), complete with 50 or 60 or 100 pop-up pictures, so
I can map out the neighborhoods and areas I want to drive through. Offer a
$50 prize or a free turkey for the winning picture, as selected by users, of
course, and you'll have a ton of entries.
(I haven't spent time digging through other news sites to
find the best Christmas lights/gallery/map/mashup. If you've spotted a good
one, please post a comment here.)
