Top Online Journalism Story of 2005: Huh?
Jonathan Dube has posted his annual list of the
top stories in online journalism at his Cyberjournalist.net website. The rankings are based on the most popular entries to that site in 2005.
And the top choice is: "New sites tap into Google Maps to create new ways of conveying information."
OK ... I guess that's an important development. I certainly mentioned
Google Maps a bunch of times in items on this blog, and I think Google
Maps and its
API
are significant and cool. But the top online-journalism story -- even
bigger than No. 2, "Tsunami: Citizen videos and photos help tell
story"? I don't think so.
As Dube says, "The No. 1 story might seem surprising, in a year in
which Hurricane Katrina struck and the aftermath of the Asian tsunami
was felt. But CyberJournalist.net's readers have spoken."
